"And I stood arrow straight
Unencumbered by the weight of all these hustlers and their schemes
I stood proud, I stood tall
High above it all
I still believed in my dreams".- Bob Seger
"Every abandoned home I photograph speaks to me, usually in a sad tone.
But the Frains Lake shot, taken from the bottom of the hill, with the blue sky and pleasant clouds
speaks to me in an optimistic tone, as if someday, someone is going to
remove the boards from the windows, turn on the electricity, clean out the birds nests
and bring the house back to life again."- Jon Piechowiak
My photographic style can be characterized as saturated color, dramatic contrast and sharp image detail. My focus is usually on unconventional subjects.

Abandoned
Many find old abandoned homes that have withstood the ravages of time and nature saddening. I see them as original works of art created by time and the elements. Each has a story to tell."There's a house on my block
that's abandoned and cold
Folks moved out of it a
long time ago
and they took all their things
and they never came backOnce it held laughter
Once it held dreams
Did they throw it away
Did they know what it means
Did someone's heart break
or did someone do somebody wrong?"- Tom Waits
Bay City
The lumber boom of the 19th century made wealthy men of those who learned to exploit the virgin forests of the Saginaw Valley. Lumber barons and Industrialists alike built their mansions along Center Avenue. Most of these fine homes, built with low-cost lumber cut in the nearby forests, still stand today.
Stone Houses
Cobblestone or fieldstone, highly distinctive and laborious to build, they are examples of folk art that flourished between 1825 and the civil war. Built by hand, taking two to seven years to construct and made from glacial stones, this type of house stands predominantly in Southern Ontario, Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania. The inventor of this style of home is unknown.
Barns
Barns symbolize positive qualities of American character: strength, honesty, endurance, security and family stability. They remind us of our heritage and help tell the story of rural life. They serve as landmarks while fulfilling the purpose for which they were originally designed, housing agricultural products and animals. With maintenance and some adaptations, they can serve us well for many years to come.- Michigan Barn Preservation Network
